Michael McRae was born in Bundaberg and attended the Christian Brothers College. His father owned D. McRae and Co in North Bundaberg and his mother was involved with many local charities including Mater Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and St Johns Ambulance.
Michael started The Coastline Newspaper Group in 1986.
He had previously worked in radio and television. He started his media career at Radio 4MB in Maryborough, he then moved to 2GZ in Orange where he was given a position at the Central West TV network as a news presenter. Some years later he was offered the senior news presenter job at WIN TV and for 18 years presented the 6 pm main news. He also compered many live shows for the station.
In 1988 Michael started the Tourist Queensland newspaper for visitors to Expo 88 in Brisbane. The Coalfields Express newspaper was first published 20 years ago to cover some of the mining towns. The Bundy Book was first published 26 years ago.
The development of the Public Notices of Bundaberg web site started in 2020 after Michael was told by many seniors of Bundaberg that when the News Mail, the daily newspaper closed they didn’t know when friends had died. Also there was nowhere that families could advertise weddings, engagements and births.
All notices will be on the website Public Notices of Bundaberg. There will be funeral notices by arrangement with local funeral directors FC Brown, Des Allen and Generation Funerals. Other pages
will cover weddings, engagements, births, special events, Police Messages from Bundaberg Police and SES message during the fire and flood seasons ( to be confirmed).
Anyone wishing to place a notice can do so here. Payment can be made by credit card.
Michael has arranged the Public Notices to be read in a segment on Coral Coast Community Radio 94.7 at 8 am each week day and repeated at 12 noon the same day. This is ideal for seniors who are not used to navigating their way around the internet.
